Arvind Kejriwal is lodged in Tihar jail after being sent to judicial custody by the court.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in judicial custody till April 15 in alleged excise policy 'scam'.
Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has been placed in judicial custody until April 15 and was transferred to Tihar jail on Monday. He will be accommodated in Jail Number 2, which is predominantly reserved for convicts.
Earlier in the day, the Rouse Avenue court addressed the case following a request from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for a fifteen-day judicial custody of Kejriwal. This request stemmed from his arrest in connection with the alleged 'scam' related to the Delhi excise policy. The ED highlighted his lack of cooperation as the reason behind their demand.
The prison authorities are in the process of assessing the requests and privileges applicable to the AAP leader, ensuring compliance with the jail regulations. A senior official at Tihar jail mentioned that Kejriwal's personal information would be entered into the prison system after the routine frisking.
Additionally, Kejriwal's legal representative submitted a request in court for access to three books: the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, and "How Prime Ministers Decide" by journalist Neerja Chowdhury, during his time in judicial custody. Meanwhile, governance of Delhi continues from the jail, with his wife Sunita Kejriwal conveying his directives to his Cabinet colleagues.
During the hearing, the ED also indicated that while they agreed to judicial custody, they reserved the right to seek further custody within the permissible period, if necessary, under the law.
