CM angry over Chhattisgarh Congress leader's comment on Modi: 'If you have courage, attack me first'.

Former Chhattisgarh assembly speaker and current leader of the opposition in the state, Charan Das Mahant of the Congress, asserted on Tuesday that confronting the Prime Minister requires a robust figure capable of wielding a stick and potentially challenging Narendra Modi's authority.

Mahant, while rallying support for Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel, the former chief minister contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Rajnandgaon constituency, emphasized the necessity of a strong advocate for farmers, youth, and women. Speaking in the local Chhattisgarhi language alongside Baghel, Mahant expressed the need for someone capable of standing up to Modi with a symbolic stick, metaphorically signifying the strength to challenge his leadership. He stressed the importance of relentless opposition, even suggesting disrupting Modi's routine and metaphorically sending him to China.

These remarks elicited a sharp response from Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who condemned the violent implications, stating his allegiance to Modi. However, defending Mahant, the Chhattisgarh Congress communications wing head Sushil Anand Shukla clarified that Mahant intended to advocate for political opposition rather than physical confrontation.

Mahant, a former Union minister, also criticized the BJP, warning of potential repercussions if the party remains in power, asserting that the ongoing political struggle transcends individual candidates to safeguard the future of the electorate and their offspring.

During his address, Mahant endeavoured to engage the audience by invoking a popular song, demonstrating his connection with the people. Baghel faces a daunting challenge as the BJP secured a significant victory margin in the 2019 elections, maintaining a stronghold in the constituency for consecutive terms.

In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Chhattisgarh will vote in three phases, with the Rajnandgaon constituency scheduled for polling in the second phase on April 26. Subsequent phases will cover other constituencies, culminating with Bastar in the initial phase on April 19.
