BRS leader K Kavitha's interim bail plea dismissed by Delhi court in excise policy case.

On Monday, the interim bail plea filed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha in the money laundering case linked to the now-defunct Delhi excise policy was dismissed by the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court. Kavitha's regular bail request is awaiting consideration by the court, scheduled for arguments on April 20. She was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15 from her residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.

Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, is accused of playing a pivotal role in the "South Group", alleged to have paid ₹100 crore kickbacks to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi in exchange for a substantial portion of liquor licenses in the national capital. She was remanded to 14-day judicial custody last Tuesday.

This latest setback for K Kavitha follows her recent move to request the Delhi court to retract its decision allowing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to interrogate her in Tihar jail. The CBI is investigating the corruption aspect of the excise policy case. Kavitha's counsel, Nitesh Rana, argued in court that the CBI's plea for questioning her was made without her knowledge, potentially violating due process.

Rana expressed concerns that the CBI might have misrepresented facts to obtain a favorable order from the court. The court has deferred the matter to April 10 for further hearing after the CBI requested time to respond to Kavitha's plea.

Despite the absence of interim relief, the Special Judge for ED and CBI cases, Kaveri Baweja, declined to recall the order. Rana emphasized that, as per judicial protocol, the investigative agency should refrain from acting upon the order while Kavitha's plea is under consideration by the court.
