2 passengers held for ‘nuclear bomb’ threat at Delhi airport.
Two men arrested at Delhi Airport for false nuclear bomb claim. Dissatisfied with security, contractors from Rajkot. Investigation ongoing.
Last week, Delhi Police apprehended two individuals hailing from Rajkot, Gujarat, following allegations that they claimed to be in possession of a nuclear bomb due to dissatisfaction with the security screening procedures at the IGI Airport.
According to authorities, the detained passengers, identified as Jignesh Malan and Kashyap Kumar Lalani, expressed discontent with the necessity of undergoing security checks, citing previous screening before boarding their Akasa Air flight bound for Ahmedabad on April 5. Despite efforts by airport staff to elucidate the security protocols, one of the individuals purportedly asserted the presence of a nuclear bomb.
Subsequently, the passengers were barred from boarding the aircraft to ensure the safety of all passengers and the aircraft itself. A case was filed under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 182 and 505 (1)(b) on April 5, prompted by the complaint and ensuing investigation.
Further inquiries revealed that the passengers were contractors within the construction industry based in Rajkot. They had journeyed from Gujarat to Delhi's Dwarka to discuss business matters with an associate concerning the procurement of SS Railings material.
Both passengers were granted bail, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing, as per police sources.
