Toys Our Children Play With’: Iran Foreign Minister Appears To Mock Israel, Downplays Isfahan Drone Attack

Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, characterized the recent drone attack over Isfahan in central Iran as an insignificant act, likening the weapons used to "children's toys." Speaking to NBC News, he dismissed the attack as non-threatening, stating, "What happened last night was not a strike. They were more like toys that our children play with – not drones." Amirabdollahian, who is currently in New York for a UN Security Council session, indicated that Iran does not intend to retaliate unless Israel escalates the situation. "As long as there is no new adventurism by Israel against our interests, then we are not going to have any new reactions," he explained. However, he issued a strong warning, stating that if Israel were to take decisive action against Iran, Iran's response would be swift and severe. "If Israel takes decisive action against my country (and) this is proven to us, our response will be immediate and to the maximum and will cause them to regret it," he cautioned. Tensions between Iran and Israel have been escalating, reaching a peak earlier this year when Israel bombed an Iranian consular building in Damascus, Syria, on April 1. The airstrike resulted in the deaths of two high-ranking generals and five officers from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). In response, Iran launched a direct military attack on Israel, involving more than 300 missiles and drones, after 12 days. However, Israeli air defense systems, supported by US, UK, and Jordanian jets, intercepted nearly all of the incoming projectiles, minimizing the damage. Amirabdollahian described the attack as a warning, highlighting that Iran could have targeted civilian areas such as Haifa and Tel Aviv, as well as Israel's economic ports, but refrained from doing so. "We could have hit Haifa and Tel Aviv. We could have also targeted all the economic ports of Israel. But our red lines were civilians. We only had a military purpose," he emphasized. In a retaliatory move, Israel struck a military airfield near Isfahan in central Iran on Thursday. The Iranian media reported no casualties, and nuclear facilities in the area were reportedly undamaged. The situation between Iran and Israel remains tense, with both sides issuing warnings and threats. The international community is closely monitoring the developments, hoping to avoid further escalation and seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
