Reliance Jio Q4 results: Profit jumps 13% to ₹5,337 crore, revenue increases 11% at ₹25,959 crore.

Reliance Industries’ telecommunications subsidiary, Reliance Jio Infocomm, witnessed an 11% year-on-year increase in its net profit, reaching ₹5,337 crore for the January to March 2024 quarter, according to the firm's financial report released on April 22. This surpasses the CNBC-TV18 poll estimate of ₹5,268 crore.

During the March 2024 quarter, Jio's revenue amounted to ₹25,959 crore, marking an 11% year-on-year growth from ₹23,394 crore. This quarter's revenue slightly exceeded the anticipated ₹25,900 crore from the poll. The company's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) climbed by 11% year-on-year to ₹13,612 crore, slightly above analysts’ forecast of ₹13,605 crore. The telco's margin for the quarter, at 52.4%, was slightly lower than the projected 52.5%. Analysts surveyed by CNBC-TV18 anticipated a stable quarter while the market awaits updates on tariff adjustments and Jio's IPO plans. The Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) increased by 1.6% year-on-year to ₹181.70, with the telco gaining 10.9 million subscribers quarter-on-quarter and 42.5 million year-on-year.

According to data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the company added 4.17 million subscribers in January and 3.59 million in February.

Following the Q4 results, Naveen Kulkarni, Chief Investment Officer at Axis Securities PMS, remarked that there were no significant positive or negative surprises in Jio's results at this stage. He noted, "EBITDA and earnings numbers appear largely in line with expectations. Therefore, this quarter appears to be in line with the company's ongoing performance trend."

Market analyst Prakash Diwan also suggested that there were no major unexpected developments in Reliance Jio's earnings for the quarter, given the absence of significant changes in pricing strategy or new subscriber additions. Diwan stated, "A potential price hike is anticipated, but the timing remains uncertain, whether it's in June or July, and who initiates it. Jio will likely adjust its prices following Bharti's announcement of a price hike, potentially leading to improved ARPUs."
