TMC protects terrorists, corrupts; AAP safeguard heads of scam: BJP

On Friday, Mamata Banerjee alleged that the recovery of weapons and ammunition from a residence in Sandeshkhali by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) could have been staged by central agencies. The BJP retaliated by accusing the Trinamool Congress-led West Bengal government of sheltering terrorists, corrupt individuals, and rapists. They also criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Delhi government for protecting those involved in the liquor policy scam and neglecting the welfare of children. During a joint press conference, BJP National Spokesperson Prem Shukla claimed that in West Bengal, neither the people ("maa"), nor the land ("maati"), nor even the human beings ("manush") are safe, pointing out that individuals like rapist Shahjahan Sheikh and terrorists are protected in the state. The CBI conducted raids in Agarhati village of Sandeshkhali and recovered several arms and ammunition, linked to an attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team earlier instigated by Shahjahan. This incident led to violent protests in the area, with women demanding Shahjahan's arrest over allegations of sexual assault and land grabbing. Shahjahan was later arrested by the state police on February 29. Shukla criticized the silence of the leaders of the INDIA bloc on the issue, questioning why they do not speak up even on small matters. He also criticized Mamata Banerjee for questioning the CBI's raids instead of supporting them. Meanwhile, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla targeted the AAP over the Delhi high court’s remarks regarding Arvind Kejriwal continuing as the chief minister despite being in jail. The court criticized the city government for prioritizing the party's interests over national interest and for failing to provide necessary resources to children studying in MCD schools. Poonawalla highlighted the lack of basic facilities such as classrooms, books, writing materials, blackboards, and desks in MCD schools. He mentioned a PIL filed in the Delhi High Court regarding the non-supply of notebooks, uniforms, and other stationary items to over 2 lakh MCD school students, revealing the dire situation faced by many students.
