Havan At Home Of Deve Gowda's Son Amid Sex Abuse Charges Against Him, Son
JD(S) MLA HD Revanna faces SIT investigation amid allegations involving explicit content. He asserts innocence while priests perform rituals at his home.
In Holenarasipura, Karnataka, smoke filled the air as flames from 'Havan' (fire rituals) blazed in the scorching summer heat at the residence of JD(S) MLA and former Karnataka Minister HD Revanna on Wednesday. Amidst the swirling smoke, a piece of paper caught attention, pasted conspicuously on the wall of his house.
Addressing reporters in Bengaluru before heading to Holenarasipura, Mr Revanna stated that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had affixed a notice to his house. He admitted to being unaware of the notice's content but expressed his willingness to cooperate with the authorities. "I have the strength to face these conspiracies. I will face it (investigation). There is no need to bother. I did not do anything wrong. I am prepared for any investigation and will fight it legally," Mr. Revanna asserted.
Refusing to address the allegations directly, he said, "I will not speak about it now." Meanwhile, the SIT has deployed three teams to investigate the case. Mr Revanna, the JD(S) MLA from Holenarasipura, is the son of former Prime Minister and JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda, and the elder brother of former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.
Prajwal, from the JD(S), is seeking re-election from Hassan, a constituency where the JD(S) is in alliance with the BJP in Karnataka. Just before the elections, a large number of explicit videos and photographs, allegedly belonging to Prajwal, went viral on social media. Following this, the Karnataka government constituted the SIT, upon the request of Karnataka State Commission for Women chairperson Nagalakshmi Chowdhary.
A case has been filed against Mr Revanna and Prajwal in Holenarasipura on a complaint by a woman, alleging sexual harassment. She claimed that Prajwal made objectionable video calls to her daughter, leading her to block him. From early morning, priests were busy conducting rituals at Mr. Revanna's residence in Hassan district to "ward off the adversity" that had befallen their family. Mr Revanna's strong belief in Gods, Goddesses, rituals, and astrology is well known.
On occasions, he has been spotted holding lemons, believing in their power to ward off negative influences. He has also been seen walking barefoot as part of his vows to fulfil his wishes.
