"Why Overnight Silence?" PM's "Ambani, Adani" Counterstrike On Rahul Gandhi
Modi questions Gandhi's silence on Ambani-Adani, BJP criticizes Congress, Priyanka Gandhi responds, highlighting election season controversies.
In a fiery address in Telangana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a blistering attack on Rahul Gandhi, questioning the Congress leader's conspicuous silence on his "Ambani-Adani" rhetoric since the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections. Modi, known for his sharp political jabs, aimed Gandhi's alleged U-turn, accusing him of abruptly halting his tirade against the industrialists and demanding an explanation for this sudden change in stance. "For five years, Congress's Shehzad kept chanting one thing. After his Rafael issue got grounded, he started a new chant. Five industrialists, five industrialists, five industrialists. Gradually, he started saying Ambani-Adani. But ever since the elections were announced, he stopped abusing Ambani and Adani.
Today, I want to ask Telangana soil, if he must declare how much money they have taken from Ambani, Adani. Was there a deal? Why did you stop abusing Ambani and Adani overnight? Zaroor daal mein kucchh kaala hai (something is wrong). You abused them for five years and then it stopped overnight?" the Prime Minister's words reverberated across the rally ground, resonating with his supporters. Modi's counterattack holds significant weight, given Rahul Gandhi's persistent accusations against the Narendra Modi government of favouring top industrialists. Gandhi has repeatedly criticized the BJP government, alleging that while it has made 22 Indians "arabpati (billionaires)," the Congress aims to elevate millions to "lakhpati" status if it comes to power in the upcoming elections. The timing and location of Modi's verbal onslaught are not coincidental. Telangana, a state under Congress rule, recently inked several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Adani Group, signalling substantial investments totalling ₹12,400 crores across various sectors.
This move further fueled the BJP's narrative of Gandhi's selective criticism, especially against industrialists with whom his party's state governments are engaging closely. The BJP has consistently highlighted Gandhi's verbal onslaughts on wealth creators and top industrialists. Gourav Vallabh, a former Congress spokesperson who recently switched allegiance to the BJP, disclosed that he was pressured by the Congress leadership to speak out against billionaire Gautam Adani. "I was the one who addressed a press conference against Mr. Adani. But after a SEBI probe gave a clean chit to the Adani Group, I told the senior party leaders to drop the matter. But they didn't stop," Vallabh revealed in an exclusive interview with NDTV. In his Telangana address, Prime Minister Modi accused Rahul Gandhi of resorting to controversy-mongering during election seasons, recalling how Gandhi had aggressively pursued the alleged corruption in the Rafale aircraft deal ahead of the 2019 general elections. Modi's sharp critique sought to portray Gandhi as a politician who thrives on sensationalism rather than substantive policy discussions. Responding to Modi's scathing remarks, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra dismissed them as diversion tactics.
"When the Prime Minister plays a full toss, he brings up pointless subjects like these. I am challenging him to hit a full toss on employment, corruption, and atrocities against women and the fact that you are protecting those who commit such atrocities," Priyanka Gandhi Vadra retorted, attempting to shift the focus back to core issues affecting the electorate. The political sparring between Modi and Gandhi underscores the contrasting narratives of the BJP and the Congress. While the BJP portrays itself as a party focused on economic growth and development through industrialization and entrepreneurship, the Congress emphasizes a more inclusive economic agenda, promising to uplift the masses by reducing income disparities. As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, the exchange of barbs between the two political heavyweights is expected to intensify. Both Modi and Gandhi are adept at using rhetoric to sway public opinion, and their verbal duels are likely to dominate the political discourse in the coming weeks.
