The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will conduct a six-day variable rate repo (VRR) auction for Rs 1 lakh crore starting today to address the current liquidity deficit in the banking system, which stands at Rs 1.56 lakh crore.

RBI’s variable rate repo auction worth Rs 1 lakh crore to start today.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will be conducting a variable rate repo (VRR) auction for a notified amount of Rs 1 lakh crore over six days starting today.

The auction will take place from 10:30 am to 11:00 am, with the reversal of these funds scheduled for June 27. “After reviewing current and evolving liquidity conditions, the Reserve Bank of India has decided to conduct a Variable Rate Repo (VRR) auction on June 21, 2024, Friday,” the Central Bank announced in a release.

The RBI typically conducts variable rate repo auctions to inject liquidity into the banking system when it is in deficit. According to RBI data, the banking system currently has a liquidity deficit of around Rs 1.56 lakh crore. Previously, the central bank received bids totaling Rs 1,35,514 crore from banks for a 14-day variable rate repo auction, against a notified amount of Rs 75,000 crore.
