Swiggy launches Swiggy UPI, reduces number of payment steps from five to just one: How to set up and use
Swiggy launches Swiggy UPI for faster in-app payments, reducing transaction time to 5 seconds and simplifying the process to just one step.
Swiggy has introduced Swiggy UPI, integrating the National Payments Corporation of India's (NPCI) UPI Plug-in solution to enable faster in-app payments. This new feature, powered by Juspay's HyperUPI Plugin, allows users to complete UPI transactions directly within the Swiggy app, streamlining the payment process from five steps to just one. The transaction time has been reduced from over 15 seconds to just 5 seconds.
To set up Swiggy UPI, customers can link their bank accounts through a one-time setup process by navigating to the app’s payment page and selecting Swiggy UPI. After the setup, users will only need to enter their UPI PIN for all future transactions. Any issues, such as insufficient funds or incorrect credentials, will be immediately communicated to the customer.
Why did Swiggy launch Swiggy UPI?
In April 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman noted that India had recorded approximately 131 billion UPI transactions, highlighting the growing popularity of UPI. Swiggy’s statement also mentioned that the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is encouraging more entities to integrate UPI services.
Swiggy partners with nearly 2 lakh restaurants across more than 600 cities, and its quick commerce platform, Instamart, operates in over 25 cities.
“We are thrilled to introduce our UPI experience to our customers. This feature supports Swiggy’s mission to provide unparalleled convenience to consumers as UPI becomes one of the most preferred payment methods,” said Anurag Panganamamula, Head of Revenue and Growth at Swiggy. “By greatly simplifying the transaction process and reducing payment failures, we believe this feature will significantly enhance the consumer experience on Swiggy.”
