Manu Bhaker made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics, becoming the first Indian to win two medals at a single Games edition since India's independence. She earned a bronze in the women's 10m air pistol event, making her the first Indian female shooter to medal at the Olympics, and later secured another bronze in the mixed 10m air pistol team event alongside Sarabjot Singh. India concluded the Games with six medals in total. Swapnil Kusale also won a shooting bronze, Neeraj Chopra claimed silver in the men's javelin throw, and the men's hockey team defeated Spain to secure a bronze. Wrestler Aman Sehrawat also brought home a bronze.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Indian contingent at his residence in New Delhi, with Manu Bhaker receiving special attention as she introduced the pistol that earned her two medals to the Prime Minister.
PM Modi shared on X, "It was a delight to interact with the Indian contingent that represented our nation in the Paris Olympics. Heard their experiences from the games and lauded their feats on the sports field." He added, "Every player who went to Paris is a champion. The Government of India will continue to support sports and ensure that top-quality sporting infrastructure is built."
The Indian men's hockey team also met the Prime Minister, presenting him with an autographed stick and posing with their medals. Wrestler Aman Sehrawat also posed with the Prime Minister. Neeraj Chopra was absent, having left for Germany post-Olympics to consult a doctor for a groin injury, ahead of his participation in the Diamond League Meets in Europe.
PM Modi also interacted with shuttler Lakshya Sen, boxer Lovlina Borgohain, and weightlifter Mirabai Chanu.
