BJP Blasts Mamata Banerjee After Bengal CM Says ‘Delhi Will Burn If Bengal Burns’.

Guwahati: Leading figures from the Bharatiya Janata Party, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, responded strongly to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s comment, “If Bengal burns, so will Assam,” with a defiant retort. In a post on X, Sharma declared, “Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don’t try to intimidate us. Your divisive rhetoric and politics of failure will not succeed.”

Earlier, during a public address in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of inciting unrest in Bengal following the tragic rape and murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata. She warned that if Bengal is set ablaze, other states including Assam, the North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi will also suffer, and promised that Modi’s political position would be in jeopardy.

Mamata Banerjee further remarked, “Some may think this is Bangladesh, but while I have great respect for Bangladesh and its shared culture with us, remember that Bangladesh is a separate country and India is another. Modi Babu is fueling the flames here. If Bengal burns, so will other states like Assam, the North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi. We will topple your chair!”

The horrific rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has sparked widespread outrage across the country, with numerous protests demanding justice. Today, the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum organized a rally in Kolkata to seek justice for the victim, coinciding with a BJP call for a 12-hour Bangla Bandh to address safety concerns and the need for swift justice.

In Asansol, BJP workers also protested, blocking railway tracks. On August 27, protests in Kolkata escalated with security forces deploying tear gas, water cannons, and lathi-charges to disperse crowds heading towards the West Bengal State Secretariat, Nabanna.

Additionally, on August 25, Parimal Dey, a teacher from Alipurduar who received the Banga Ratna award from Mamata Banerjee in 2019, announced his decision to return the award in protest against the state's handling of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case. The trainee doctor was found deceased in the seminar hall of the college on August 9.
