PM Modi to launch projects worth ₹76,000 crore, address Fintech Fest tomorrow in Maharashtra.

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Maharashtra, where he will unveil projects totaling over ₹76,000 crore in Palghar and speak at the Global Fintech Fest 2024 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The Prime Minister's office (PMO) has announced that Modi’s day will begin with a morning session in Mumbai. Later, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several development initiatives at CIDCO ground in Palghar.

In Mumbai, PM Modi will first address a Special Session at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2024, organized collaboratively by the Payments Council of India, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), and the Fintech Convergence Council. The conference will feature approximately 800 speakers, including policymakers, regulators, senior bankers, industry leaders, and academics from around the world, participating in over 350 sessions.

The GFF 2024 will showcase the latest fintech innovations, with the launch of more than 20 thought leadership reports and white papers providing in-depth industry insights.

Regarding the Palghar projects:

  • The PMO stated that the new projects aim to create a world-class maritime gateway to enhance trade and economic growth. This includes the development of Vadhvan Port, near Dahanu, which is set to become one of India’s largest deep-water ports. The port will feature advanced technology, deep berths, and modern management systems to improve maritime connectivity and reduce transit times and costs. It is expected to boost local employment, stimulate businesses, and support regional economic growth with a focus on sustainability.

  • Modi will also inaugurate and lay the foundation for 218 fisheries projects worth approximately ₹1,560 crores, aimed at boosting infrastructure and productivity in the fisheries sector. These projects are projected to create over 500,000 jobs and enhance fish production and post-harvest management.

  • Additionally, the Prime Minister will launch the “National Rollout of the Vessel Communication and Support System,” a ₹360 crore initiative to install 100,000 transponders on fishing vessels across 13 coastal states and UTs. Developed by ISRO, this system will improve safety, enable two-way communication for fishermen at sea, and aid in rescue operations.

  • Other initiatives include the development of fishing harbours, Integrated Aquaparks, and the implementation of advanced technologies like Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems and Biofloc. Modi will also lay the foundation for modernizing fishing harbours, fish landing centres, and markets to enhance post-harvest management and hygiene.
