Rain leads to closure of over 60 roads in Himachal Pradesh.

Officials reported on Monday that over 60 roads in Himachal Pradesh have been blocked due to recent rainfall. Shimla has been particularly affected, with 30 roads closed, followed by 16 in Mandi, 10 in Kangra, two in Kullu, and one each in Kinnaur, Una, Sirmaur, and Lahaul and Spiti districts. Additionally, 17 power schemes in the state are disrupted, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).

Since Sunday evening, light rains have hit several areas, with Kasauli experiencing the heaviest rainfall at 25 mm. Shimla recorded 18.6 mm, Jubbarhatti 16 mm, Kufri 12.3 mm, Naina Devi 12.2 mm, Solan 8.4 mm, Berthin 5.2 mm, and Dalhousie 5 mm. The state has a 21 percent rainfall deficit since the monsoon began on June 27, having received 524.1 mm of rain against the average of 663.9 mm.

The ongoing monsoon season, from June 27 to September 7, has resulted in 158 rain-related deaths and 30 people still missing. The state has incurred losses amounting to Rs 1,305 crore. Of the 158 fatalities, 39 were due to falls from heights, 27 drowned, 26 were bitten by snakes, 23 died in cloudbursts, 17 were electrocuted, eight were killed in flash floods, six in landslides, one was struck by lightning, and 11 died from other causes.
