The retail lobby predicts that sales during Navratri could exceed ₹50,000 crore over the next 10 days.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) forecasts a nearly 43% increase in retail business during the upcoming 10 days of Navratri celebrations. With the end of the inauspicious Pitru Paksh and the start of Navratri today, festivities including Ramleela, Garba, Durga Puja, and Dandiya will take place. According to CAIT's data, this period last year saw business transactions totaling ₹35,000 crores.

CAIT estimates that this surge will enhance overall commercial activity across India, with Delhi alone projected to generate over ₹8,000 crores during this time. Last year's festive season recorded a total business volume of ₹3.75 lakh crores, spanning from Ganesh Chaturthi through various celebrations, including Navratri, Vijayadashami, Karwa Chauth, Dhanteras, Diwali, Bhai Dooj, Chhath Puja, Tulsi Vivah, Gurpurab, Christmas, and ending with New Year celebrations.

Praveen Khandelwal, CAIT's Secretary General Emeritus and Lok Sabha MP from Chandni Chowk, noted a shift in consumer preferences toward Indian products, with a notable rise in demand for traditional attire such as sarees, lehengas, and kurtas.

Additionally, there is expected to be increased demand for fruits, vegetables, and other edible items. Small kiosk owners, who are largely unorganised, will likely see a boost in sales of flowers, lamps, incense sticks, and decorative items during the festive season.
