Honda to establish 500 battery-swapping stations in Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai by 2026.
Honda Motor is set to launch a network of 500 battery-swapping stations across Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai by March 2026.
Honda Motor plans to establish 500 battery-swapping stations across Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai by March 2026 through its subsidiary, Honda Power Pack Energy India Pvt Ltd (HEID). The stations will support the company's battery-swapping service, Honda e:Swap, which will launch in Bengaluru in February 2025 and expand to New Delhi and Mumbai by April 2025.
Takuya Taniguchi, President and CMD of HEID, outlined three key objectives for the company: expanding the battery swap network, ensuring reliable service with a highly integrated system to monitor each battery and exchange process, and enhancing the customer experience with seamless battery swaps.
On Wednesday, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) unveiled two new electric scooters – the Activa E and the QC1 – with the goal of capturing 50% of the domestic electric two-wheeler market within the next year. The Activa E features swappable batteries, while the QC1 has a fixed battery. The battery-swapping model is expected to lower the upfront cost of the scooter, as HEID owns the batteries, and alleviate concerns about range anxiety.
HMSI will roll out the Activa E in phases across the three metro cities. To use the battery-swapping service, Activa E owners can register for a membership on the HEID mobile app when purchasing the scooter. The plan includes 250 swapping stations in Bangalore, 150 in Delhi, and 100 in Mumbai by March 2026.
HEID first introduced battery swapping services in November 2021 for electric auto rickshaws. The company’s system allows users to exchange depleted Honda Mobile Power Pack e: batteries for fully charged ones at nearby swapping stations.
