Maruti gives a sneak peek of the eVitara ahead of its unveiling at Auto Expo 2024.

Maruti Suzuki has offered a glimpse of the upcoming eVitara electric SUV for India ahead of its official debut at the Auto Expo 2025 (Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025). The eVitara will be unveiled to the Indian public for the first time on January 17 in New Delhi.

Maruti eVitara to Compete with Creta EV, BE 6e

Previously shown as the eVX concept, the Suzuki eVitara was recently revealed in Milan, Italy. This all-electric SUV marks Maruti’s first foray into the EV market in India and will rival competitors such as the Hyundai Creta EV (also debuting on January 17), the MG ZS EV, the Tata Curvv, and the Mahindra BE 6 SUVs. The eVitara is expected to launch in India by March 2025, with a European launch scheduled for June 2025.

The production version of the eVitara closely resembles the eVX concept, though with some modifications, particularly in the sharper elements, which have been smoothed out. However, much of the concept's design language has been retained in the final production model.

As previously reported, the Maruti eVitara (codenamed YY8) is built on a new skateboard platform developed in collaboration with Toyota. Toyota will also offer its own version of the eVitara, called the Urban Cruiser EV. Both models will be produced in India and exported to various global markets.

The eVitara is expected to come with two battery options: a 49kWh variant for the base trims and a 61kWh variant for the higher trims. The 61kWh version will likely feature an all-wheel-drive setup, referred to by Suzuki as AllGrip-e.

The eVitara will be sold through Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa premium dealerships. More information regarding bookings, pricing, and delivery will be shared closer to its official launch in India. In addition to showcasing the eVitara, Maruti Suzuki is also expected to announce plans for expanding accessible charging infrastructure across the country, with a network of chargers at its sales and service outlets.
