Struggling to stay afloat, SpiceJet may have secured a much-needed financial boost of over Rs 2,250 crore from new investors. The airline's board convened on Tuesday and greenlit the infusion of fresh capital to this substantial amount. Facing a severe financial crunch, SpiceJet has faced challenges in meeting timely payments to employees, statutory dues, and other stakeholders for several months. The airline's on-time performance has also suffered due to the financial constraints and the truncated schedule it has been operating. SpiceJet aims to address these issues and fuel its growth with the newly acquired funds.

According to a statement by the airline, the proposed preferential issues involve investors such as Elara India Opportunities Fund, Aries Opportunities Fund, Mahapatra Universal Limited, Nexus Global Fund, Prabhudas Lilladher, Resonance Opportunities Fund, and others, for the issuance of equity shares and equity warrants totalling over ₹2,250 crores.

SpiceJet's CMD, Ajay Singh, expressed the significance of this fundraiser, emphasizing its role in fortifying the airline's financial position, enhancing operational capabilities, resolving outstanding issues, and positioning the airline for sustained growth in the dynamic aviation sector. Singh expressed gratitude to stakeholders, employees, and partners for their patience and support, acknowledging their contribution to helping SpiceJet overcome a challenging phase in its history.
