4 Indian Navy warships on high seas after strike
Following a strike incident, 4 Indian Navy warships are deployed on high seas for patrol and defense, ensuring maritime security.
The Indian Navy has heightened surveillance and operational alert in the Arabian Sea following the drone attack on the MV Chem Pluto. Four guided missile destroyers have been deployed to protect commercial shipping in the West Asia region from potential missile-drone attacks. Additionally, the navy has deployed P8I multi-mission aircraft and Sea Guardian drones for enhanced maritime domain awareness.
The MV Chem Pluto, which was hit by a drone, reached Mumbai harbour on Christmas day. An Indian defence team is investigating the incident. The navy is on high alert due to potential threats in the region, with ongoing tensions involving Shia Houthi rebels targeting merchant shipping in the Red Sea and north Arabian Sea. The INS Kolkata, INS Kochi, INS Visakhapatnam, and INS Chennai are actively patrolling to ensure open sea lines and immediate response to any military obstruction. The Iranian role in the incident is under scrutiny, and the Houthis' use of Iran-manufactured drones is considered a possibility. The maritime security situation is a cause for concern, to target merchant tankers evident in recent attacks. The region's shipping routes, including the Suez Canal, are impacted, leading to diversions via the Cape of Good Hope and increased costs and oil consumption.
