Happy to see nation shedding mindset of slavery, says PM Modi

NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, PM Narendra Modi stated that as Indians take pride in their "virasat" (heritage), the world's perception of the country has also changed. He expressed happiness over the nation shedding the "ghulami ki mansikta" (mindset of slavery). The PM made these remarks during a program in New Delhi marking 'Veer Bal Diwas,' observed across the country to commemorate the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh's sons, Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh.

Modi, who announced in January last year that December 26 would be observed as Veer Bal Diwas, noted that the day is now observed internationally with programs in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, UAE, and Greece.

The PM stated, "Until we did not respect our heritage, the world did not give importance to our heritage. Today, when we are feeling pride in our heritage, the world's viewpoint has also changed. I am happy to see that the country is now coming out of the mindset of slavery. Today’s India has faith in its people, its capabilities, and its inspirations."

"Veer Bal Diwas is symbolic of the resolve of the never-say-die attitude for the protection of Bhartiyata (Indianness). This day reminds us that age does not matter when it comes to heights of bravery," Modi added. He highlighted the courage and ideals of Guru Gobind Singh and his four "Veer Sahibzades," stating that they continue to embolden every Indian.

Reflecting on the battles of Chamkaur and Sirhind, Modi emphasized that this history should not be forgotten, acknowledging that Indians faced cruelty and despotism with dignity. He noted that the world now recognizes India as "the land among the foremost lands of opportunities."

The PM praised India's youth as an unparalleled resource and emphasized their pivotal role in the country's development. Modi envisioned a developed India by 2047, highlighting the potential benefits for youth in terms of health, education, employment opportunities, quality of life, and products. He urged the youth to prioritize physical and mental health and advocated for a strong national campaign against drugs involving religious leaders, civil society organizations, the government, and families.
