Thousands stranded at New Year as Eurostar cancelled

Numerous frustrated passengers find themselves stranded in London and Paris, urgently attempting to rearrange New Year's Eve plans and explore alternative travel routes. Some individuals are contending with steep hotel expenses or high airfares. Eurostar has not yet confirmed whether services will resume on Sunday, and HS1, 

responsible for the track, acknowledges that resolving the issues will require time.

“Thames Water attributes the flooding to a "fire control system," likely causing the issue, rather than one of its pipes. Southeastern's high-speed services to Ebbsfleet, sharing the same line, have also been cancelled. Eurostar, operating services from London to Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam, assures affected customers of a full refund or exchange.

At a bustling St Pancras on Saturday, disappointed travellers, faced with cancellations, sought alternative routes. The disruption follows major Eurostar disruptions just days ago due to a "last-minute strike" by French workers. In addition to the Eurostar issues, significant disruptions impact Thameslink and Northern Rail services, while severe weather forces closures and cancellations in Wales. Speed restrictions and flight delays are reported in Scotland due to adverse weather conditions. The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for wind, rain, and snow across various regions in the UK.
