AAP to hold National Executive, Council meetings today
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to convene its National Executive and Council meetings today, addressing key political and governance matters.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced that it will conduct the National Executive and National Council meetings on Sunday through video conferencing, as communicated on Saturday. This decision comes in response to the third notice issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and AAP's national convener. The meeting is scheduled following Kejriwal's return to the national capital from a Vipassana meditation session.
Arvind Kejriwal completed a 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, and returned to Delhi on Saturday. Expressing his experience, CM Kejriwal mentioned in a post, "Returned today after 10 days of Vipassana meditation. This sadhana gives immense peace. From today onwards, we will again start serving the public with new energy." CM Kejriwal's Vipassana meditation spanned from December 19, and during his departure from the meditation centre in Hoshiarpur, he was accompanied by Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann.
Official sources suggest that Kejriwal is expected to appear before the Enforcement Directorate on January 3 in connection with the excise policy case. On December 22, the ED issued a third summons to CM Kejriwal, urging him to appear on January 3. Earlier, on December 18, Kejriwal received the second summons for a deposition on December 21, which he did not attend.
The Enforcement Directorate had initially summoned Kejriwal on November 2, but he did not appear, alleging that the notice was "vague, motivated, and unsustainable in law." He asserted that the summons seemed politically motivated and issued for extraneous considerations. In April of the same year, the CBI also summoned CM Kejriwal in connection with the excise policy case. Though not named as an accused in the FIR filed by the CBI in August of the previous year, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia was arrested in February 2023 over alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of Delhi's now-discarded excise policy. The policy was withdrawn amid accusations of misconduct by the opposition.
