US and UK forces shoot down Houthi missiles, and drones in Red Sea -US military

On Tuesday, U.S. and UK military forces successfully intercepted and neutralized 21 drones and missiles launched by Houthi rebels from Yemen. The targeted area was the Southern Red Sea, a crucial international shipping route. The U.S. Central Command confirmed no injuries or damages, highlighting that this marks the 26th attack by the Houthis on commercial shipping lanes in the Red Sea since November 19.

The Houthi assaults, backed by Iran, have intensified in response to Israel's actions in Gaza. This has prompted shipping companies to suspend operations in the region, opting for longer routes around Africa to ensure safety. The Red Sea has become a focal point for geopolitical tensions, impacting maritime trade.

The Houthi militants, expressing discontent with Israel's Gaza conflict, have pledged to persist in their attacks until the hostilities cease. Additionally, they issued warnings of potential strikes on U.S. warships if their group becomes a target.

In response to the latest threat, U.S. and British forces collaborated to shoot down a total of 18 drones, two anti-ship cruise missiles, and one anti-ship ballistic missile. The successful interception underscores the ongoing efforts to safeguard strategic waterways and prevent disruptions to vital global trade routes.
