Weather update: Delhi gets relief from biting cold; Foggy conditions to persist in North India – Full forecast here

According to the latest weather forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), people in North India can expect to continue experiencing foggy and cold conditions over the next two days. Cold-day to severe cold-day conditions are anticipated in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh until January 22. Additionally, isolated areas in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh are expected to have chilly weather in the coming days.

Dense fog is likely to persist for a few hours during the night and morning over various parts of the northern and other regions of the country until January 20. The presence of jet stream winds over the plains of North India may lead to the subsidence of cold air, intensifying cold waves and cold day conditions. The forecast suggests that the jet stream's similar intensity will continue for the next 3-4 days.

Despite the ongoing cold conditions, Delhi experienced a slight respite from severe cold as the minimum temperature settled at 6.6 degrees Celsius, just below the season's average. The maximum temperature recorded was 18.6 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal. The weather forecast indicates that Delhiites can expect temperatures around 7-8 degrees Celsius in major stations like Palam, Lodhi Road, and Pusa on Friday morning. On January 19, maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 18 degrees Celsius and seven degrees Celsius, respectively. The weather department has issued a "yellow alert" for dense fog in the national capital and adjoining areas for the next two days.
