On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed projects totaling Rs 55,600 crore in the Northeast region.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled projects totalling Rs 55,600 crore in the Northeast, among them the strategic Sela tunnel, which promises all-weather connectivity to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. The unveiling occurred during a program in Itanagar, where the PM introduced projects spanning Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh. The Sela tunnel, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 825 crore, stands as an engineering marvel, providing a crucial link across the Sela pass on the Balipara-Chariduar-Tawang Road in Arunachal Pradesh.
The project, whose foundation stone PM Modi laid in February 2019, serves not only to enhance transportation efficiency in the region but also holds strategic significance due to its proximity to the frontier with China.
The PM inaugurated the Sela tunnel by flagging off an Arunachal Pradesh State Transport bus that traversed through it. Additionally, he unveiled development projects worth over Rs 41,000 crore in Arunachal Pradesh alone. Notably, he initiated the Dibang Multipurpose Hydropower Project in the Lower Dibang Valley district, a venture estimated at Rs 31,875 crore, which will stand as the highest dam structure in the country upon completion.
Furthermore, PM Modi laid the foundation stones for numerous road, environmental, and tourism projects, as well as for school upgrades. He also inaugurated around 1,100 projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state and 170 telecom towers under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), benefiting more than 300 villages, among other initiatives.
