EC reveals new details on the purchase of electoral bonds.

 

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has provided additional details regarding the utilization of electoral bonds, including specifics on the amounts redeemed by each political party on March 17.

The ECI has published this data on its official website, sourced digitally from the Supreme Court's registry. In compliance with an interim order issued by the Supreme Court on April 12, 2019, political parties submitted information on Electoral Bonds in sealed envelopes, as stated by the electoral body in a released statement.

As per the data furnished by the EC, the BJP cashed in electoral bonds amounting to Rs 6,986.5 crore, with the highest sum of Rs 2,555 crore received during the fiscal year 2019-20. Meanwhile, the Congress redeemed a total of Rs 1,334.35 crore through electoral bonds. Trinamool Congress emerged as the second-largest recipient after the BJP, securing Rs 1,397 crore through electoral bonds. BRS ranked fourth among the recipients, encashing bonds valued at Rs 1,322 crore.

Other political parties also utilized electoral bonds, with BJD cashing in bonds worth Rs 944.5 crore, YSR Congress redeeming Rs 442.8 crore, TDP utilizing Rs 181.35 crore, SP with Rs 14.05 crore, Akali Dal with Rs 7.26 crore, AIADMK with Rs 6.05 crore, and National Conference with Rs 50 lakh, as outlined in the report.
