Morne Morkel has been appointed as the bowling coach for the Indian cricket team, with his contract set to begin on September 1. The former South African fast bowler's appointment was first rumored before the Sri Lanka series and has now been officially confirmed by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah to Cricbuzz.

Previously, Morkel worked with India's current head coach, Gautam Gambhir, at the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), where Gambhir served as the team mentor and Morkel as the bowling coach. The two also played together for three seasons with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Morkel's first assignment as India's bowling coach will be the two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home, starting on September 19.

Throughout his career, Morkel played 247 international matches for South Africa, taking 544 wickets between 2006 and 2018. He is widely recognized for his successful partnership with Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander, a trio that played a pivotal role in many of South Africa's key victories.
