SpiceJet receives 'bomb' threat for two flights via social media.

On Wednesday, SpiceJet reported receiving bomb-threat messages for two of its flights via their X account. A spokesperson for the airline stated that the relevant authorities were promptly notified and all safety protocols were implemented.

Passengers on both flights were safely disembarked, and after obtaining the necessary approvals, the aircraft were cleared to continue operations.

In the last two days, approximately 13 Indian flights, including some international ones, have received bomb threats, though no suspicious items have been discovered on any of the planes.

"On October 16, 2024, SpiceJet’s X account received a direct message indicating a bomb threat regarding two flights. The appropriate authorities were notified immediately, and established safety protocols were followed. Passengers on both aircraft were safely evacuated. Following the necessary approvals, the aircraft were cleared for further operations," the statement noted. Some flights were diverted, and certain airlines had to re-screen all passengers, causing significant delays and inconvenience. Many of the social media accounts responsible for the false bomb threats were traced to locations outside the country and were swiftly suspended. Cybersecurity agencies are actively monitoring social media accounts linked to these false threats. Earlier today, the Ministry of Home Affairs requested a report from the Ministry of Civil Aviation concerning the hoax bomb threats.

A senior official informed PTI that the MHA has directed the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the Bureau of Civil Aviation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) to prepare a report on the recent bomb threats.

"The MHA has instructed all relevant security agencies in the aviation sector to compile a report on this issue and submit it promptly. The investigation will be overseen by the central intelligence agency to determine if this is part of a conspiracy to tarnish the reputation of the Indian aviation sector," the official said. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have filed a first information report (FIR) related to the bomb threats and have initiated an investigation.
