Royal Enfield Scram 440 unveiled, launch in January 2025.
The Royal Enfield Scram 440, unveiled at the 2024 Motoverse festival, comes with a more powerful 443cc engine, 6-speed gearbox, and improved features like switchable ABS and alloy wheel options.
About a year and a half ago, we reported that Royal Enfield was working on a new model called the Scram 440. Internally codenamed D4K, the project has now come to fruition and was officially unveiled at the 2024 Motoverse festival.
The most significant update is the engine, which has been upgraded from 411cc to 443cc, thanks to a 3mm increase in bore size. Power and torque have also received a bump, with output rising from 24.3hp at 6,500rpm and 32Nm at 4,250rpm to 25.4hp at 6,250rpm and 34Nm at 4,000rpm. A major change is the addition of a 6-speed gearbox, along with a reduction in clutch effort, according to Royal Enfield. The company has also refined the SOHC valvetrain system, which should result in less engine noise.
In terms of the chassis, changes are minimal, but the bike is now reinforced in key areas, making it capable of carrying a top box. Ground clearance remains unchanged at 200mm, and suspension travel is still 190mm at the front and 180mm at the rear. Seat height is also consistent at 795mm. However, braking performance has been improved with a larger piston in the front brake caliper. The kerb weight has increased by about 2kg, bringing the total weight to 196kg with a full 15-litre fuel tank.
Like the Scram 411, the new Scram 440 will feature a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel setup. Royal Enfield has listened to customer feedback and added a few notable features: there's now an option for tubeless tyres and alloy wheels, although spoked wheels are still available. Additionally, the Scram 440 now comes with switchable ABS, a feature previously missing on the Scram 411. Visually, the bike remains similar, with updates limited to new colour schemes and a new LED headlamp, which is shared with other models in Royal Enfield's lineup. The display remains the same digi-analogue unit, with an optional Tripper navigation pod. The switchgear remains the conventional type, unlike the rotary-style switches found on other RE models.
The Scram 440 is slated for a January 2025 launch and will be offered in two variants: the top-spec Force model with alloy wheels and tubeless tyres, and the Trail version with spoked wheels. While the current Scram 411 is priced between Rs 2.06 and Rs 2.12 lakh, the Scram 440 is expected to be similarly priced, though it may come with a slight price increase.
