'Hindu religion is a fraud': SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya triggers controversy, says 'SC has said the same thing'

Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya has ignited controversy by stating that "Hindu is a deceit," emphasizing that Hinduism is not a religion but a means of livelihood. He cited Supreme Court orders, and statements by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to support his claim. Maurya highlighted that the Supreme Court, in 1955, stated that Hinduism is not a religion but a way of life, and Bhagwat and Modi echoed similar sentiments.

Speaking at the National Buddhist and Bahujan Rights Conference in New Delhi, Maurya questioned why his statements on Hinduism caused a public uproar when similar remarks by others went unnoticed. He underscored the disparity in reactions, stating that when he points out that Hinduism is a betrayal and a business for some, FIRs are filed across the country, while no offence is taken when influential figures make similar statements.

Maurya accused the upper classes in Hinduism of exploiting the Bahujan vote bank to gain power and subsequently cancelling reservations for the marginalized communities. He argued that the eight percent comprising Brahmins, Kshatriyas, and Vaishyas cannot form a government on their own and have historically exploited backward classes, using the Hindu identity for electoral purposes. However, after securing power, they neglect the interests of scheduled castes, tribes, and backward castes.

The Samajwadi Party leader expressed concern about the weakening of democracy, alleging that those in power are undermining the Constitution by diminishing reservations. He criticized the disqualification of nearly 150 MPs from Parliament and accused the government of conspiring against democracy.

Swami Prasad Maurya has a history of making controversial statements, previously claiming that Hinduism is a betrayal. His recent remarks have reignited debates about the nature of Hinduism and its political implications, drawing attention to issues of caste-based discrimination and electoral strategies in Indian politics.
